April 1, 2007 After four-consecutive Sweet 16/Ladies' Top 28 appearances, back-to-back Class 2A Outstanding Player honors and two state titles, there really wasn't much left for Tarkeisha Wysinger to accomplish. Except, that is, be named the best female basketball player in the state. With the Louisiana Sports Writers Association's naming of Wysinger as the 2007 Farm Bureau/Miss Basketball, a proper cap was put on Wysinger's brilliant prep career. On the floor, there isn't much Wysinger, a Louisiana Tech signee, can't do. "The first thing that jumps out at you is athletic ability," Louisiana Tech head coach Chris Long said. "She's got good quickness and body control. She's very good in the open court and has a knack for scoring. "Last year, she scored a lot in the block, posting people up, but she also has the ability to score in transition." In a modern-sports climate in which many highly talented players are too often prone to prima-donna antics and general negative personality traits, this burgeoning star has exhibited only the highest character. "She's the hardest working player I have ever had the privilege to coach," Many coach Jeremy Leach said. "She's got a great personality. She's a little bit quiet and a silent leader on the floor, but she gets the most out of her teammates. "She's a model student and an all-around good person. God blessed her with talent and she uses that talent to the best of her ability." When the now-5-11 forward was but a freshman, Wysinger put up averages of 17 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists as the Lady Tigers advanced to the Class 2A semifinals. Many lost to eventual state champion Christian Life that year. The older Wysinger got, the more impressive her numbers became and the more success Many enjoyed. In the 2003-2004 season, Wysinger was good for 23.4 points, 9,5 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game as Many won the first of its claimed the first half of their back-to-back 2A championships. In Many's second title run, Wysinger put up an average of 26.4 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4. 4 assists per game and was considered for the Miss Basketball award, The only criticism Wysinger had to endure those first three years was that she was helped by a great supporting cast. Wysinger and the Lady Tigers made it back to the Class 2A championship game minus three starters from the 2006 team ? two of whom were all-state players. With her back against the wall and generally asked to guard the opposition's best player (regardless of position), Wysinger put together her best statistical season averaging a double-double with 27.8 points, 12.4 rebounds, 4.21 assists and 4.1 steals. "I tried to be a more vocal leader," Wysinger said. "I really don't talk much, so I usually just tried to lead by example. I also worked on defending certain players and (encouraged the Lady Tigers to continue) working as a team. "The big thing was becoming more of a leader and forming good relationships with my teammates."
