Advancing to a state tournament was nothing new for Franklin's Adrienne Johnson, who had previously helped her team win two state titles. Playing in a state championship was something new for Ben Martin of E.D.White Catholic. The two players with diverse playoff backgrounds headline the Louisiana Sports Writers Association's Class 3A All-State teams despite the fact that neither of their teams claimed titles.

The 6-foot-2 Martin was voted the Outstanding Player on the 3A boys squad after finishing the regular season averaging 16 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. In the playoffs, Martin upped his scoring average to 23 points a game, including a 32-point performance against Wossman in the semifinals. Martin's Cardinals lost to Karr in the 3A title game.

Johnson was voted the Outstanding Player on the girls squad after guiding the Lady Hornets to their fourth consecutive semifinal appearance in Hammond. She averaged 26.7 points, 15 rebounds, 5 blocks, 4 steals and 3 assists.

E.D. White's Jonathan Keife was selected as the boys Coach of the Year after leading the Cardinals to a 28-8 record that included the school's first-year Top 28 berth and title-game appearance. Billy Dreher of Catholic-New Iberia was also considered. Garry Broadhead of Teurlings Catholic claimed girls Coach of the Year honors. Broadhead's Rebels finished 26-8, advancing to the semifinals. Alvin Stewart of 3A champion Capitol Pre-College Academy for Girls was also considered.
